How many people does an Airstream International sleep?

How many people your International sleeps depends on the floor plan you choose. The 23FB sleeps up to 4 people, while the 25FB, 27FB, 28RB, and 30RB each sleep up to 6 people.

All International models include:

  • Your choice of a queen bed (60 inches by 75 inches) or twin beds (34 inches by 80 inches each)
  • A dinette that converts into sleeping space

The 25FB and 27FB offer an optional front bunk measuring 31 inches by 86 inches. This bunk supports up to 150 pounds and works as storage when not used for sleeping. Every bed includes a pillow-top memory foam mattress with quilted bedspread, decorative throw pillows, and sleeping pillows.

What kind of vehicle do I need to tow an Airstream International?

The towing requirements vary based on which International floor plan you select. Here are the weight specifications for each model:

International 23FB

  • Base Weight: 5,100 pounds (with LP and batteries)
  • Hitch Weight: 500 pounds
  • GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 6,000 pounds

International 25FB

  • Base Weight: 5,700 pounds (with LP and batteries)
  • Hitch Weight: 860 pounds
  • GVWR: 7,300 pounds

International 27FB

  • Base Weight: 6,000 pounds (with LP and batteries)
  • Hitch Weight: 850 pounds
  • GVWR: 7,600 pounds

International 28RB

  • Base Weight: 5,900 pounds (with LP and batteries)
  • Hitch Weight: 860 pounds
  • GVWR: 7,600 pounds

International 30RB

  • Base Weight: 6,600 pounds (with LP and batteries)
  • Hitch Weight: 900 pounds
  • GVWR: 8,800 pounds

Your tow vehicle needs a towing capacity higher than the GVWR of your chosen model. The 23FB requires a vehicle rated for at least 6,500 pounds, while the 30RB needs at least 9,500 pounds of capacity.

Most mid-size and full-size trucks, SUVs, and some larger crossovers work well for towing an International. You'll need a weight distribution hitch system for safe towing. Check your vehicle's owner's manual for specific towing capacity and requirements. The team at Airstream of South Carolina in Lexington can help match your vehicle to the right trailer.

Key things to learn include:

  • Connecting utilities including electric, water, and sewer
  • Understanding your power system and battery monitoring
  • Operating the Smart Control Technology app
  • Basic maintenance like checking seals and tire pressure
  • Winterization and de-winterization procedures

The International includes features that make RV life easier, like powered stabilizer jacks, a powered awning, and Airstream Smart Control Technology that lets you monitor and control systems from your smartphone. These modern features reduce the learning curve compared to older RV models.

Does owning an Airstream International make sense living in South Carolina?

Absolutely! South Carolina is a fantastic state for Airstream ownership, and the International is perfectly suited for camping throughout the Palmetto State and beyond.

Extended Camping Season: South Carolina offers comfortable camping most of the year. The mild climate means you can camp from March through November, and many campgrounds stay open year-round. Winters are gentle, making winter camping possible at many locations. You'll get far more use from your International compared to owners in colder states.

Lake Murray: Right in your backyard, Lake Murray is one of South Carolina's premier camping destinations. Covering 50,000 acres with 500 miles of shoreline, this massive lake offers world-class fishing and boating. Dreher Island State Park sits on an island in the middle of Lake Murray, providing lakefront camping with swimming, fishing, and stunning views. The International is perfect for enjoying Lake Murray's many campgrounds and marinas.

South Carolina State Parks: South Carolina has over 47 state parks with more than 3,000 campsites. Sesquicentennial State Park sits just outside Columbia, offering convenient camping close to home. Kings Mountain State Park near the North Carolina border features excellent hiking and a beautiful campground. Hunting Island State Park on the coast offers beachfront camping with an iconic lighthouse. The International works perfectly for exploring the state park system from the mountains to the sea.

Coastal Camping: South Carolina's coast offers over 200 miles of beautiful Atlantic beaches. Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand provide numerous beachfront campgrounds with full amenities. Charleston area campgrounds put you close to historic sites and coastal beauty. Hilton Head Island offers upscale camping near world-class golf and beaches. Edisto Beach State Park provides a quieter beach camping experience. The International makes beach camping comfortable and convenient.

Upstate Mountains: The northwest corner of South Carolina reaches into the Blue Ridge Mountains. Table Rock State Park and Caesars Head State Park offer mountain camping with stunning views. Lake Hartwell along the Georgia border provides excellent lake camping. Oconee State Park sits in the foothills with beautiful scenery and great hiking. The International is ideal for escaping to the mountains when you want cooler weather.

Congaree National Park: Just outside Columbia, Congaree National Park protects an old-growth bottomland hardwood forest. While primitive camping requires hiking, nearby private campgrounds offer full hookups close to the park. The International provides comfortable base camp for exploring this unique national park.

Santee Cooper Lakes: Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie make up the Santee Cooper lake system, offering excellent fishing and camping. Multiple campgrounds around these lakes provide lakefront camping with full amenities. The area is famous for bass, crappie, and catfish fishing. Your International is perfect for fishing trips to Santee Cooper.

Equipment Features: The International comes with optional solar panels and lithium batteries, perfect for camping at state parks and more remote locations. The 15,000 BTU air conditioning is essential for South Carolina's warm summers, keeping you comfortable on hot days. The 30,000 BTU furnace handles cooler winter nights and spring camping. The enclosed, insulated, heated underbelly protects your systems year-round.

Local Convenience: With Airstream of South Carolina located in Lexington, you have easy access to expert service and support. This makes routine maintenance, repairs, and any needed service convenient throughout your ownership. Having a local dealership means you can get help quickly whenever you need it.

Storage Considerations: South Carolina's mild climate is ideal for RV storage. Many owners keep their International outside year-round with minimal winterization. While brief winter preparation is recommended during the coldest weeks, you won't face the harsh winters that require extended storage. You can store your trailer at home or use one of the many storage facilities throughout the area.

Regional Travel: South Carolina's central location makes regional adventures easy. Drive to the Great Smoky Mountains, explore North Carolina's coast, visit Georgia's coast and mountains, or head to the Florida beaches. The International makes exploring the entire Southeast comfortable and enjoyable.

The International's quality construction, including its riveted aluminum shell and excellent insulation, handles South Carolina's climate beautifully. From summer beach trips to fall camping in the mountains, this Airstream is built for Palmetto State living. With lakes, beaches, mountains, and state parks all within reach, owning an International in South Carolina means adventure is always waiting just down the road.
